I FORGIVE THEM
(Nori Kelley)

Long ago a man was hanging on a cross
The weight of the world on his shoulders
His friends and his family thinking all was lost
Surrounded by the Roman soldiers
Quickly the clouds rolled in, eternity in the wind
As he was dying they heard him say

I forgive them, I forgive them
The things that they did to me, I'm choosing to set them free
I forgive them, I forgive them
The things that they've said and done, the battle is won
I forgive them

In this fallen world our faith is easy to lose
With the thoughtless deeds of selfish people
Physical, emotional and verbal abuse
Only God can deliver us from evil
Bitterness, hate and more are crouching at my door
Before it destroys me, I choose to say

I forgive them, I forgive them
The things that they said to me, I'm choosing to be set free
I forgive them, I forgive them
The things that they've said and done, the battle is won
I...

I'm throwing off these chains
'Till only the truth remains
It isn't worth all the suffering inside
Restore my joy as I pray

I forgive them, I forgive them
The things that they did to me, I'm choosing to set them free
I forgive them, I forgive them
The things that they've said and done, the battle is won
I forgive them, I forgive them

I remember starting the lyrics to this song while we were on the road, driving somewhere in the midwest on I-70.

We all likely have areas in our lives where we want to harbor unforgiveness. Because we feel we were wronged, no matter how big or small the issue, we tend to feel justified in our feelings. It's definitely a choice we have to make, but forgiving and letting it go can certainly help us to move forward.
